Insurance Executive Pleads Fifth Over Altered Reports During Superstorm Sandy Hearing
Catastrophes breed controversies. Superstorm Sandy has a raging one involving altered engineering reports. Yesterday, Jeff Moore, a flood insurance executive with one of the largest National Flood Insurance participating insurers, pleaded the Fifth Amendment when asked questions regarding those altered reports. A New York engineering firm that was hired by insurance companies to evaluate damage caused by Superstorm Sandy faces charges that it illegally altered reports prepared by inspectors in the field. An indictment unsealed Monday charges HiRise Engineering and one of the company’s project managers, Matthew Pappalardo, with felony fraud.
